About Caffeine & Carburetors
Caffeine & Carburetors is a gathering of automotive enthusiasts. We meet at Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee in New Canaan, CT about 6 times year to enjoy our rides and share them with like-minded gear heads hiding in and around Connecticut and New York.
We have a tendency to lean toward sports cars, with the occasional Model A or 1920′s Rolls Royce, but our emphasis is on foreign sports cars. We enjoy all vehicles and there are no sponsorships or awards.
Doug Zumbach began hosting these gatherings in 1995. These Sundays start around 8 am to gather and enjoy a cup of coffee followed by a leisurely drive through the countryside.
Caffeine and Carburetors is a way to indulge the gear head in all of us.
Event schedule is always listed in the sidebar. Being a gathering and not a juried event, there is no registration, and events are free for all.
The Peoples Behind Caffeine & Carburetors
Doug Zumbach | Founder
Doug Zumbach, the man behind Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee and Caffeine & Carburetors is a curious mix of coffee fanatic, gear head and people person.
In his former life, Doug was a human resources executive doing the Metro North-Manhattan shuffle each morning for many years before opening Zumbach’s Coffee in New Canaan, CT. More than 18 years later, the business is a thriving hub of daily activity on New Canaan’s Pine Street, adjacent to the Metro North train. Open every day, Zumbach’s roasts an average of 250 pounds of coffee daily and offers well over thirty different types of single origin beans, as well as several types of coffees brewed by the cup.
Two very important fixtures take up space in the shop. First, a Diedrich roaster sits in one corner usually manned by Doug. And chances are if you don’t see him behind the roaster or talking to customers, he is behind the wheel of another important fixture, his beloved 1977 Porsche 930 turbo.
Doug founded Caffeine & Carburetors in 1995, indulging his need for carburetors and opening it up to the many customers that double as his fellow car fanatics who are drawn to the shop for their requisite daily cup of joe as well as car talk.
He currently owns a 1972 porsche 911T, a race prepared 1977 930 porsche and is currently restoring a 1964 Plymouth Fury. In the past many cars have passed through his hands including an Austin Healy, a Porsche 914 6, a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner (“the one that got away”) and a Harley Davidson Motorcycle.
Peter Bush | Lead Driver & Rally Coordinator
Peter Bush is no stranger to Fairfield County or New York City as he has been on the radio for over thirty years. A native of New Canaan, Peter attended New York University and started a career in radio shortly after graduation. Bush is a long time sports cars enthusiast with stints in competitive racing and driving instruction. When Peter isn’t at the track he can be found on the slopes snowboarding, on the courts playing tennis and paddle tennis, running and hiking.
Peter has known Doug over the past ten years and is responsible for mapping and leading the C & C rally. Peter also announces the rules of the rally and drives the lead car.
Todd Brown | Promotion & Marketing
Born in NYC and raised in btoh Forest Hills, Queens with summers spent in New Milford CT on Candlewood Lake, Todd has always loved cars. His first car was a 1969 Pontiac Le mans convertible with dirt bikes and street bikes keeping his rapt attention.
A stint in both the fashion and music industry early in his career, Todd grew tired of not following what he was truly passionate about – cars.
Working for custom shops and coach builders inspired Todd to finally open his own business. He recently sold his stake in that company and is now getting back to his roots with a new venture with his wife, called Garage and Cellar. They are also owners of 109 Cheese and Wine in Ridgefield, CT.
“I love food, wine and of course, the drive.”
